Our topic today about present simple form THE SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE IS USED: To express habits, general truths, repeated actions or unchanging situations, emotions and wishes: I smoke (habit); I work in London (unchanging situation); London is a large city (general truth) To give instructions or directions: You walk for two hundred meters, then you turn left. To express fixed arrangements, present or future: Your exam starts at 09.00 To express future time, after some conjunctions: after, when, before, as soon as, until: He’ll give it to you when you come next Saturday. How do we use the Present Simple tense? We use the Present Simple to talk about: general time (action verbs) situations now (stative verbs) general time and situations now (verb be) Present Simple for general time We use the Present Simple tense when: the action is general the action happens all the time, or habitually, in the past, present and future the action is not only happening now the statement is always true English Course online Simple Present Forms The simple present is just the base form of the verb. Questions are made with do and negative forms are made with do not. Statement: You speak English. Question: Do you speak English? Negative: You do not speak English. In the third person singular, -s or -es is added. Questions are made with does and negative forms are made with does not. Statement: He speaks English. Question: Does he speak English?
